The Flying Pennies Are Back!
It's a new year, and we have a new band. The members have changed up quite a bit. It's still Raphael Carrasquillo and me, but Maritza and Arian are gone and Killian Henson joined. I play guitar, Raphael plays drums, and Killian plays base. Killian does most of the singing,
We learned how to play "Little Talks" by Of Monsters And Men, and "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" by Cage the Elephant. As a part of their US History class, Killian rewrote the lyrics to "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" to be about the Transcontinental Railroad, and Raphael rewrote "Little Talks" to be about Abraham Lincoln. We then adapted the entire "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" song, making it "Ain't No Rest for the Workers." Raphael put together a FANTASTIC music video based on the original music video, and then we all played a live concert at the The Queen's Bees!

I also thought I'd mention that I have two new favorite bands: Of Monsters and Men, and First Aid Kit
FLASHMOB!
For out final project at the end of the year, about half of my class has decided to do a musical flashmob (like this one. Or this one). We are doing a mix of three different songs: "Power", by Kanye West, "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, and "Shape Up" from Grease. I sing in the background of "Power", and play guitar for "Billie Jean" and "Shape Up".
UPDATE: It went reasonably well. We ran out of time to choreograph much of anything, but it wasn't too problematic. Unfortunately, the singing in the beginning was so quiet that nobody really knew what was going on, and the loud drums and the amped-up bass and piano completely drowned out my acoustic guitar, so nobody could really hear me. It was a fun experience, though, and I would definitely do it again.
